An Early Summer BBQ Day

The last couple of days have been quite warm in the South Bay. With such summer-like conditions, who could resist a Barbecue? We went to work with BBQ baby back pork ribs, grilled pineapple, grilled asparagus, roasted corn on the cob and steamed broccoli and cauliflower. We ate out in the patio while the hummingbirds put on a show feeding from the flowers in the yard. What a good day!

Rainbow Harbor

While I lived in Long Beach as a child, my parents would often take us kids to the shoreline. At the time, there was a semicircular pier called ‘Rainbow Pier’ in the harbor. Today, the pier is gone and the harbor there is now ‘Rainbow Harbor.’ This is a panoramic view of the harbor taken from Pierpoint Landing where Dad used to take us fishing. Spring Gazania

This one surprised me – I was in the garden this morning watering and, suddenly, I saw a beautiful Gazania in full bloom that was not there yesterday! Several more will appear in the next few days.

Epiphyllum Flowers – Coming Soon

We have three epiphyllum succulents living in the patio and the flowerbed. These aren’t much to look at until they produce these beautiful flowers. We have three of these – one of them will be getting red flowers soon and another will get golden flowers. The one with white flowers usually waits another month or two and we’re hoping to get those too.

These are photos from last year:

Seashore

We hoped that after last week’s rainfall, that it would be clear enough for some good photo ops at the seashore. Unfortunately, we had one of those mostly overcast weekends with suboptimal visibility. So, I dug into the archives and found this nice seascape taken at Point Vicente several weeks ago. Verna takes most of the pretty pictures for the blog, but every once in a while I get lucky and get a good shot with my canon A710IS digital camera. This is a wallpaper-sized photo. Click on it to see it full-sized and feel free to put it on your desktop.
