First Spring Daffodil

Spring has sprung around here – well unusually warm winter weather, at least – and the first daffodil is already open in the patio. Click on the image below to view full-sized.

Latest Addition to the Aloha Shirt Collection

We stopped in Kingman, Arizona, on our recent Winter Cruise. There is a tourist spot there called the Kingman Powerhouse, which is a tribute to the railways and Route 66 in Kingman. There is a gift shop there who had their usually high-priced Aloha Shirts at reduced prices. I picked this colorful Route 66 print at Verna’s recommendation. Click on the print to enlarge.

An Exceptional RV Park

Quite by accident, we found this RV park in Pahrump Nevada. It is located about halfway between Las Vegas and Death Valley National Park. We stayed at this park the night before we went to Death Valley.

KOA Pahrump

From the Pahrump KOA listing:

Located 60 miles northwest of Las Vegas and 50 miles from Death Valley, the Pahrump Desert Retreat KOA is a highly rated luxury RV Resort. We have 202 RV sites that can accommodate RVs up to 64 feet long and 50 AMP service. Amenities include a 10-ft. waterfall, 2 outdoor solar-heated pools and Jacuzzi, indoor spa with saunas, steam rooms and Jacuzzis, fitness center with Cybex equipment, laundry facility, putting green, shuffleboard, bocce ball, horseshoes, pet center, 4,000 sq. ft. convention center, 24-hour security, free WiFi internet, bowling center.

It is a great place to stay with more amenities than we needed. We’re planning to go back for a several-day visit to explore Death Valley and the surrounding ghost towns using the KOA as our home base.

Warthog

This is my Para Ordinance Warthog. There are many like it, but this one is mine. We will be going to the range in the morning to do some target practice. I took this photo last week just after I cleaned her up. I love this gun. Not only is she pretty, she’s powerful – a full-on 45 caliber semi-automatic pistol with a 10 round magazine capacity. Going Ape

Well, it’s an old expression, but completely appropriate for these slippers Mom and Dad gave me for Christmas. I just love them!

The Bike Shop in 3D

bikeshop.pngI usually take my little camera with me when I go for my after-lunch walk. When I see something interesting, I’ll take a picture of it.

Sometimes I will see an opportunity for an interesting 3D picture, as was the case when I saw all of these bicycles lined up in front of Helen’s Cycles in Manhattan Beach, California.

I have tried this shot in the past, but something in the background changes like vehicle or pedestrian traffic and spoils the need for the picture background to be static. On this day, I got both shots without anything moving. Please visit my 3D Stuff information page to read about how these 3D pictures are made and how you can get a free pair of 3D glasses.

As usual, I have provided a 2D image here in case you don’t have your 3D glasses yet.
