Marine Mammal Rescue Center

We stop at the Fort MacArthur Marine Mammal Rescue Center once in a while to visit the marine mammal ‘patients.’ The center does a great job of rescuing these guys and they try to mend them and get them back into their habitat without excessive ‘imprinting’ on their human benefactors.

We have supported this work for a number of years and we feel that it is an important project. The beneficiary mammals are unable to seek help or treatment, but rather the center provides pro bono assistance to keep our coastline critters safe and healthy. Joshua Tree 3D

Joshua Tree in 3DOn our first full day of vacation, we drove from our campground in Twentynine Palms, CA, through Joshua Tree National Park. The landscape within the park is quite unusual. At one point, we came upon a campground set in an area where great boulders were strewn about. I thought that it would make a nice stereo image, so I snapped a pair and merged them into this image. Click to enlarge.

You will need red/cyan or red/blue 3D glasses to see the stereo effect. If you do not have the 3D glasses, you can look at the 2D version.

Relaxing on the Road

We totally broke away from the usual routine while we were on the road last week. We spent evenings passing the time reading the blogs on the computer, posting our adventures and enjoying adult beverages after dinner. We didn’t bring a TV and didn’t watch any DVDs on the computer. It was just SO relaxing.

Scotty’s Castle

One of the main attractions at the Death Valley National Park, is Scotty’s Castle. The castle, actually a residence and ranch, is in the northern part of Death Valley. There are many legends and controversies surrounding the castle, not the least of which concerns Scotty, himself.

Below, Verna looks into the dry plunge in the foreground with the castle and chime tower beyond. The last time we were here, the plunge was full of water, ready for swimmers. We don’t know why it is dry now. Click on the image for larger view.

Cruiser in 3D

3D CruiserThis is our cruiser all hooked up in the RV campground on Christmas Eve, in Wickenberg, Arizona. We were tied down at a place called “Horsepitality,” where RVs and horse trailers could camp overnight. After all the hookups were in place, I decided to snap an image pair that could be merged later into a 3D image. This is the result.

The cruiser, itself, is a 24 foot long class B motorhome on a Ford van chassis. The interior, while certainly not spacious, had all the comforts we needed for our winter cruise. In fact, after the sun went down, we had showers off and on all night – fortunately, they seemed to subside whenever Bear, our canine companion, had to head for the dogwalk.
