Bridal Veil Falls

One of the many spectacular highlights from our recent vacation – Bridal Veil Falls in Yosemite National Park. The water flow is not as high as in the springtime, but it’s a wonderful sight to see in spite of the narrow stream. Click on the image to enlarge.

The High Sierra Nevada Range

We woke up this morning in Bishop, California, in the beautiful Owens Valley. The towering Sierra Nevada Mountains and the White mountain range provided a corridor of scenic splendor as we drove southbound from Bishop, winding up near Victorville, California in the high Mojave Desert. It was quite a day, going from the great basin to the high desert.

Balloons over Reno – Part II

Another day, another couple of hot air balloons flying over the treetops. This time, one of them resembles the Everready Bunny. Click image to enlarge.

Balloons over Circus Circus

I got up and looked out of the hotel window this morning and saw a bunch of hot air balloons floating by the tower at Circus Circus in Reno, Nevada.

One of them looked like Smokey the Bear! Click image to enlarge.

Mountain Lion

This beautiful mountain lion replica is on display at the New Melones Lake Visitors Center and Museum near Sonora, California. We were passing through historic route 49, appropriate for the gold rush of 1849, and saw the turnoff for the visitors center. We were certainly not disappointed when the museum exhibits included a diorama of several indigenous critters, including the mountain lion, also known as ‘cougar.’
