A Vendela Rose

Once in a while, we will pick up a bouquet of colorful roses to decorate the front room or to use as a centerpiece on the dining table. This week, our selection was Vendela roses.

According to the label on the wrapper:

VENDELA

Cream variety with large bloom size, medium petal count, green foliage and opens steadily into a classic rose shape.

Red Amaryllis with Backlighting

Every Christmas, I love to grow amaryllis from their bulbs. It is so easy and the results are quite often spectacular. I took this photo of a red one where it was bathing in Sunlight through the window above and behind. Click on image for the large size.

Christmas Cactus

I look forward to the opening of the Christmas Cactus flowers every year. This is a new one that we got at the garden shop a couple of weeks ago. I love the colors and the delicate nature of these beautiful flowers.

According to The Flower Expert:

Christmas cactus, also known as Orchid Cactus, is a great gift idea on Christmas eve when in full bloom. Christmas cactus is a popular, winter-flowering houseplant native to Brazil. pendulous stems of Christmas cactus make it a great choice for hanging baskets.

Garden Shop Gears Up for Christmas

On our bi-weekly trip to the garden shop today, the theme was obviously Christmas. I cannot recall seeing so many poinsettias in a single place in my life. Verna got this candid shot of the overwhelming poinsettia invasion. Click to enlarge.

The weird thing is that the vendors had painted and glitterized some of the plants. I wonder just how long something like that will last? Some were gold, some were purple (weird) and some were green and yellow (also weird). I just like the red and yellow ones, like God intended.

A New Bed for Bear

Bear under the Mama’s Desk on the new bedWhen the hoomins came home from shopping today, they brought me a new bed. At first, I didn’t like it. It smelled funny and I didn’t know what it was for. The hoomins kept putting me on it and I kept getting off. I ran away and hid behind the sofa.

After a while, they put it under the Mama’s desk, where I like to take my naps. I kept going over to it and smelling it, but I didn’t get in.

Then, the Mama came and got my blanket and put it under the desk. The blanket made the bed smell more like I’m used to, so I decided to get on it and take a nap. Hey! I like my new bed now!
