Progress Report

address.jpgOur Contractor installed a rain gutter along the patio roof before we left for California last week. Today, he replaced the lights in both bathrooms with bronze lighting fixtures to match the plumbing and other bronze hardware. We decided to donate the chrome fixtures we installed in error to charity.

We also asked the contractor to install a peep hole in the front door and to install the plaque with our address. We ordered the plaque at the same time as our sconces to match the style and colors.

Going Home

I took this picture this afternoon on US 60 near Brenda, AZ, while we were heading to our Arizona home. The saguaro cactus in the foreground and the craggy mountain peak in the background makes for a beautiful sight. Click on the image to enlarge.

Tiny Orchids

After a little shower this morning, I went out on the patio and took this picture of these tiny flamingo-colored orchids. Somebody at the orchid show told us the name of these, but we forgot. Anyhow, they were pretty with the raindrops still on them.

Lesson Learned

weeds.jpgWe have been finishing up our new home for the past six weeks or so. Meantime, the California backyard responded to the lack of attention and a lot of rainfall with this armpit-high array of weeds. I think these grew faster than the Federal Deficit. Now, I know I should have pulled and hosed down the small weeds (then) with RoundUp.

Weed killing is a ritual I carry out every winter between rain storms but this year, due to our excitement and eagerness to occupy the new home, I overlooked it. Today, I paid the price by getting out there and pulling a bunch of these “Sequoia Redwoods” of the weed world. I also sprayed several gallons of RoundUp on the entire back yard except for some of Verna’s garden treasures.

I still have some cleanup and disposal to do but I ran out of motivation. Click on the image to enlarge.

Hen and Chicks

When we got back to the California house, many of the flowers in the patio were in bloom. This croup of little flowers is from the hen and chicks succulent. Click on the image to enlarge.
