My First Red Bird Flower

Well, this is a photo of another one in town that I took today. The inset (bottom right) is the budding pods on one of the red birds that are in the courtyard that will soon make the beautiful colors of my favorite desert flower. Click on the image to enlarge.

A Spa For The Patio

new-spa.jpgVerna and I decided to get our patio screened in to keep critters and vermin outdoors where they belong. We had a patio screen contractor who was recommended by our house contractor come over on Saturday to measure the space and to start working up a proposal.

While we discussed the details of the screen installation, I suddenly came to the conclusion that if we were going to get a spa, we better have it on the patio before the screen is installed. Technically, We probably could get the spa through the 36 inch wide doors after the contractor installs the screen, but we believe it will be much easier to just have it on the patio in the first place.

So, last evening I ordered the unit shown above. With shipping, tax and delivery, it was a little over $3k from Wal Mart.

Tenderloin Weekend – Part II

grilled-tenderloin.jpgWe enjoyed these beautiful center-cut beef tenderloin steaks (a.k.a. Filet Mignon) grilled to medium-rare, topped with sautéed mushrooms. The steaks were served with butter-basted roasted-on-the-grill corn-on-the-cob, steamed broccoli florets and asparagus spears.

I went to the butcher counter on Thursday when we were doing the weekly grocery shopping. I told the butcher on duty that I did not see any beef tenderloin steaks in the meat cooler. He offered to cut me a couple from a fresh beef tenderloin. The man was kind enough to cut two from the center of the tenderloin and wrapped them for us. “That’s where I would want mine to come from,” he said.

Damn, the steaks and the whole meal were wonderful!

Tenderloin Weekend – Part I

Verna and I decided to cook outdoors all weekend. The forecast was for temperatures in the high 90’s and up to 100°. We took a pork tenderloin out of the freezer and grilled it with a honey-mustard glaze. We served this sliced with acorn squash, roasted sweet taters and applesauce. Click on the image to enlarge.

Panoramic Image From Across the Road

Verna and I went across the road to a neighbor’s place to check on his dog while he was away. I looked back across the road toward our house and got this panoramic image from the hill where the neighbor’s house is located. Click on the image to see the full panorama.

Hummingbird Feeder

Verna put out a hummingbird feeder a few days ago. The little hummingbirds have been coming around to check it out. Today I got this brief footage of one of the little guys helping itself to some of the nectar.

Yes, that’s a railroad lantern hanging above the feeder. $3 at Family Dollar. 🙂
