Put On Your Sunscreen, Kids

A couple of weeks ago, I had an appointment with my medical caregiver to remove a dime-sized growth on my right shoulder. I went home with a little round bandage on the excised area.

The lab at the clinic performed a biopsy on the removed tissue and it turned out to be a basal cell carcinoma – skin cancer in other words. I got a call last week that they wanted to schedule a second procedure that would remove additional tissue that would “get it all.”

On Monday, I went in to have the second procedure performed. After it was all finished, I had a two-inch gash on the shoulder held together with a bunch of sutures.

This is actually the second time I have gone through this; the first basal cell removal and follow-up occurred before I retired in 2009 and left a nasty, jagged scar in the middle of my back.

This time, this surgeon did a much better job of stitching me up; if you’re inclined to view my new nice, straight incision, you can click in the rectangle above and to the right.

Lower Casandro Wash

This is the view looking east from the point where our access road meets the pavement. The hieroglyph mountains are in the distance and the wash runs downward toward a storm drain about a quarter mile away. Click on the image to enlarge.

Asian Lilies Bouquet

Last week, we brought home several stems of Asian lilies that were on sale on the flower stand at the supermarket. This week, they have started to open and display their vivid colors. Click on the image to enlarge.

Lemon Harvest

lemon.jpgNow that the lemons are ripe, we went to the “orchard” next to the RV drive and pruned off all the lemons. These are the “Lisbon” variety of lemons. There were about forty on the tree before we picked them today.

The bucket in the image to the left measures about a foot in diameter and is fifteen inches deep. Click on the image to enlarge.

Most of the lemons are quite large. We’re planning on giving some to the neighbors and keeping a few in our fruit bowl for our Friday fish meal.

The Patton Museum

The George S Patton Museum is at about the halfway point between the California House and our Home in Wickenburg. We stopped here today to let the dogs do their thing and to take a couple of pictures. We have visited this museum before but did not go in there today. Click on the image to enlarge.
