Range Report

weak-side.jpgWe missed our trip to the range last week. We both just decided not to go - maybe it had something to do with it being Friday the 13th? Naaaah.

Anyhow, we made it out there today and fired Verna’s S&W 686 .357 revolver, my S&W 908 9mm pistol and my Glock 26 9mm sub-compact pistol. We fired 100 rounds of 9mm and 50 rounds of .38 special.

We set up a single silhouette target and paced off 7 yards to establish our firing line. By the time all rounds had been fired, most were within the center 30 percent of the target with a few outliers around the edges. I’m pretty sure all rounds actually hit the target somewhere. Keep in mind that we let ourselves get rusty while we were building and furnishing our new home. We’ll get better, I’m sure.

In the image above, Verna is practicing shooting from her weak side. She likes the little S&W pistols just because they don’t kick a lot and she can practice single-handed shooting with them. Click on the image to enlarge.

Casandro Wash

cas-wash.jpg

I posted about Casandro Wash a while back. Verna took the photo above (click to enlarge) of the little sign that identifies Casandro Wash next to the road where you would turn to go to our house.

I pulled up a more recent aerial map of the area and modified it to show the wash and it’s features. In the image below, the red rectangle shows the boundaries of our lot. The red circle shows the location of the sign in the photo above and the yellow line shows the path of the water runoff as it flows down the wash. All lines and symbols are approximate. I Like The Dog Park

The Mama and the Daddy took me, Bear and Cabela to the dog park today. I have been there before, but today I sniffed and ran all over the park. It was fun. This is me running over to the Daddy who was calling for me to come to him. I love my new home and hoomins. Click on our picture to make us big.

Palms and Clouds

We made our monthly trip to the Phoenix metro area today to shop in Surprise, Peoria and Glendale, AZ. We had to get some supplies for the yard and garden at Lowe’s and to shop for some hard-to-find-in-Wickenburg food and kitchen items at Smart and Final. I snapped this photo of some newly-trimmed palm trees with puffy clouds as we drove through Peoria on our way home. Click on the image to enlarge.

What’s For Dinner?

chix-fried.jpg

Verna and I have been watching NFL playoffs this weekend, but there is still enough time to enjoy our weekend meals. Yesterday, it was home made chicken pot pies (yum!) and today we had this great southern tradition - chicken fried steaks with mashed potatoes, savory bacon green beans and cut corn. The steaks weren’t the usual bottom round cut, but beef tenderloin (filet mignon). Verna also sauteed some baby portobello mushrooms. Click on the image to enlarge.

Red Roses and Stargazer Lilies

We bought this bouquet of Red Roses and Stargazer Lilies at the flower stand in the supermarket yesterday. They look very pretty on the sofa table in the great room. Click on the image to enlarge.

Our Desert Mountains

mountainscape.jpg

I snapped this photo of the Weaver Mountains that are about 25 miles north of town. We were on our way to do our weekly grocery shopping. The cloud shadows give the mountains a very photogenic appearance. Click on the image to enlarge.
