Visit to the Dog Park

baybay.jpg

We took Bear, Cabela and Bay Bay to the dog park today. Our dog park is a no-leash park and boy, do the dogs love it. They all (including Bear) gallop all around chasing each other and any other dogs in the park (today there were two other dogs – all friendly). In the image above, Bay Bay is heading back to us at full-gallop. Click on the image to enlarge.

Gold Strike

“Gold Strike” is the name the grower of these beautiful yellow roses gave to this variety. I bought a dozen of these and some baby’s breath to decorate the great room in our home. I also got more daffodils for the office and guest bathroom. There sure are a lot of yellow flowers in the house this week. 🙂 Click on the image to enlarge.

Bishop’s Cap Cactus in Bloom

bishops-flowers.jpg

We originally bought this bishop’s cap cactus in a three-inch pot here in Arizona back in about 1998. It lived in California and did well there during the years before we retired and brought it back to Arizona. It seemed to like California since it grew into the six-inch pot seen in the image. However, now that it’s here in Arizona, it produces flowers all year long. I took this image today in our courtyard. Click on the image to enlarge.

Bacon Time

Hi – this is Bay Bay. Every night, the Mama gets some doggie bacon from the cabinet and treats Bear, Cabela and me to some tasty bits. Bear gets hers first and then Cabela and I jump up on the couch and the Mama feeds us little bits of the bacon. Yum yum! Click the picture to make us big.

Solar Imaging Experiments

sol.jpgVerna and I are planning an excursion to Northern Arizona in late May to observe the Annular Solar Eclipse on May 20, 2012. We already have reservations to stay in Page, AZ, which is along the centerline of the eclipse path.

I bought several pairs of cardboard eclipse shades for us to be able to safely watch the event. Today, I taped one of the shades to my little camera and took a couple of photos of the solar disk. I took this image while holding the camera in my hands. I expect that image quality will improve by using a tripod. I will be experimenting with both cameras over the next few weeks to ensure that we get some good images when the time comes.

First Cardinal Sighting of 2012

first-cardinal.jpg

After the rain subsided this afternoon, I spotted this male cardinal sitting on a power pole across the road. This is the first sighting of a cardinal for us this (almost) spring. he was whistling his mating call so I believe he’s in the market for a mate. Click on the image to enlarge.
