Magazines and Ammunition

Magazines and AmmoLook what the FedEx truck brought today! Two Magpul PMAG 30 round magazines and a hundred rounds of 5.56×45 55 grain rounds to fill ’em up. We had a small refund from the IRS and Arizona Department of Revenue and thought that we should invest part of the money in ammunition.

We were going to the shooting range today, but it’s still a little cool and windy for us. We will make our pilgrimage when the weather warms up a bit. We need the practice and are anxious to shoot the AR-15 some more.

A Harris’ Hawk Visits the Bird Feeders

Harris’ Hawk

This isn’t the first time I have photographed one of these in the back yard. They come to the feeders, not looking for birdseed, but the little birds that are attracted here. Or squirrels, or whatever. We find feathers in the yard, so once in a while, these hawks get lucky. Click on the image to enlarge.

Paperwhite Buds

Paperwhite Buds

I have several bulbs planted in a shallow box in the courtyard. This morning, I discovered that there were buds opening on my paperwhites. It rained overnight and we had a little freezing rain pellets on top of the soil in the box. That’s why you don’t see the brown potting soil in the background – it’s ice. Cholla and Deadwood

Cholla and Deadwood

This is a photo of a cholla cactus embedded in an old dead mesquite that is up in the wash behind our house. I took this photo today and then rendered it in sepia to make it look all artsy and stuff. Click on the image to enlarge.

The Musical Mesquite Tree

Musical Mesquite

While in California last week, I collected some more wind chimes and other trinkets to bring to the Arizona house. I put some of them in my “musical mesquite” tree. When spring comes, the tree will again bear leaves and seedpods. Click on the image to enlarge.
