Vacation

YAY!! Back in Arizona Tonight

Welcome

We’re in Kingman, AZ tonight, just a two-hour drive from home. We’re looking forward to being home tomorrow (weather permitting, T’storms forecast), to re-invigorate ourselves and prepare for another sojourn to California next week.

Too many things happening at once:

  • Imminent Great Grandson birth in N. Calif.
  • Mom is very, very ill in S. Calif.
  • Real estate deal escrow closing in S. Calif
  • Personal property disposition in S. Calif
  • Medical procedure scheduled in Arizona

We’ll get through it OK we’re sure.

Eastern Sierra Cinder Cone

Cinder Cone

On or way south along US 395, east of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, we saw this cinder cone rising above the alluvial plain of the Owens Valley. The volcanic activity that formed this cone must have happened at some time after the upwards thrust of the tectonic plate collision which formed the mountain range in the distance.

There is evidence all along the Owens Valley that validates the natural events that made the visual landmarks. Diaz Lake, being one of the most recent geological events, did not exist until the late 1800’s when an earthquake caused the land to drop and for mountain springs to fill the void. Diaz lake is still an attraction for campers and boaters that come here. Click on the image to enlarge.

Bishop Rose

Bishop Rose

The hotel in Bishop, where we are currently staying, has a small rose garden. I paused after we arrived and went over to get this photo of one of the lovely, fragrant blooms. Click on the image to enlarge.

Architecture of Old Santa Rosa

Santa Rosa High School

This is another example of the beautiful architecture that we saw during our recent visit to Santa Rosa CA. This is Santa Rosa High School, pretty much the way it has been seen since 1925.

We’re in Reno, NV tonight, a far piece from old Santa Rosa, but we still remember the nice visit with the grandchildren and seeing all the quaint houses and classic architecture. Click on the image to enlarge.

A Very Nice Old House in Santa Rosa

Old House

We are in Santa Rosa, CA, tonight after having spent a nice day visiting with our three granddaughters. We took them to lunch and got caught up with what everyone has been doing and such. The oldest is going to give birth to the little dude any day now and, unfortunately, we won’t be able to stay for the blessed event, since we have to head back home in the morning.

While we were driving through town, we saw a great many historical structures that were still in great shape. In addition to the nice old house on the photo, we saw some great old buildings dating back to before 1925 that were still in premium condition. Click on the image to enlarge.

Teapot Water Tower

Teapot Water Tower

Today, somewhere along California State Route 99 between Bakersfield and Fresno, we saw a Scandinavian (tourist trap) village along the roadside. In the background was this water tower made up to look like a teapot. Very zany. Click on the image to enlarge.
