Bishop’s Cap Flowers

Bishop’s Cap Flowers

Here we are with another “too many to count” flower eruption on my Bishop’s Cap Cactus. Bob and I bought this cactus when it was in a three-inch pot at a cactus nursery in Chandler, AZ, just before we got married. That would be about eighteen years ago, by my reckoning.

This cactus has always done well since we first put it in the patio in our California home. It is now here in the Arizona Courtyard and must (it seems) produce a hundred flowers each year, way more than it ever did on California.

I did not bother to count the number of this opening, but I can assure you that it is one of the larger flower counts in recent history of the Bishop’s blooms. Click on the image to enlarge.

Only three this time (I think the record is 20), but they’re as pretty as ever. Click on the image to enlarge.

This cactus started in a two-inch plastic pot and we purchased it in Chandler, AZ, way before we decided to move to Arizona, about eighteen years ago. This is for sure the oldest member of our cactus collection now that we’re living here.

Some of our old cactus collection were lost when we sold the California place, but we’re planning on replacing those with new cacti as we continue to refine our Arizona courtyard and rock garden. One day at a time, we’re getting things done.

Bishop’s Cap Flowers – Old Faithful

Old Faithful

I have lost count of how many flowers have opened on our little Bishop’s Cap barrel cactus. We have had this cactus for almost twenty years and it just keeps on making flowers all year long. This batch opened yesterday morning on the courtyard patio.

Our “old Faithful” cactus just keeps on going like the Ever Ready Bunny™. Click on the image to enlarge.

The hotel in Bishop, where we are currently staying, has a small rose garden. I paused after we arrived and went over to get this photo of one of the lovely, fragrant blooms. Click on the image to enlarge.

Once again, this happy cactus is in bloom. It seems to do so all summer long. We originally bought this cactus in a three-inch plastic pot near Chandler, AZ, about fifteen years ago. After the first couple of years, this cactus has given us flowers every summer and even more so now that it is back in Arizona. Click on the image to enlarge.
