Well, maybe it’s not named after the prison, but this flight of pelicans swooped by a bay in Palos Verdes when I caught them soaring in the onshore updrafts on their northward trek.

Doesn’t this make you just want to get on the boat and head over to the Island? This was taken in September of 2005 as we embarked on our annual trek to Catalina for our anniversary. In ’05, we came back from the Island on a helicopter and immediately headed up to Utah to visit Zion, Bryce and Arches National Parks. We’re thinking about doing that again this year.

Sunday’s outing to the shooting range brought a satisfying feeling to Verna as she hits the target dead center five out of five rounds. Press the > control below to play the 20 second video.

We posed for this in a gazebo overlooking Malaga Cove in Palos Verdes Estates. The South Bay beaches can be seen behind us. This was a great day for photos and Verna got a bunch of them.

On a recent photo excursion, Verna shot this scene from a cliff side park just west of Point Fermin in San Pedro.
