Road Work

Road Work

This summer, the monsoons wreaked havoc with the road in front of our little house. It ran like a river at times and eroded much of the compact soil away, leaving sand, ruts and the sewer heads exposed.

Yesterday, a crew from the town came out and mostly fixed those problems with a water truck to dampen things down and a road grader to redistribute the new dirt brought in to fill in the roadway.

It looks fine now, but monsoons will come again. Click on the image to enlarge.

Thanks for the Rain

Thanks for the Rain

Bob and I went into town last week and played like we were tourists. I visited several of the little shops in the area and we had lunch at the best Mexican restaurant in town. I took lots of photos, one of which was the “Thanks for the rain” bronze sculpture at the Desert Caballeros Western Museum. The sculpture is by famous cowboy artist, Joe Beeler. Just another beautiful Arizona sunset as seen from our courtyard. Enjoy! Click on the image to enlarge.

Fourth Anniversary of our Retirement

We officially retired from the aerospace mill four years ago. We traveled some after the big day, often coming to Arizona to see the sights and to build Verna’s Dream Home. The banner above contains a slideshow of some of the photos Verna took while on the road and also two astronomical events; the Great Annular Solar Eclipse of May 20, 2012 taken from Page, Arizona and the June 5, 2012 transit of Venus across the solar disc. Cimarron Sage Flowers

Cimarron Sage Flowers

Second Spring is upon us. The Cimarron sage bushes by the driveway have erupted with tiny purple flowers. I took this photo this afternoon as the sun was getting low in the western sky. I look forward to a lot more flowers, not only on the sage, but cacti and elsewhere before fall sets in. I’ll be taking pictures, of course. Click on the image to enlarge.

Harvest Moon

Harvest Moon

Last night was the Harvest Moon. I took a photo of the moon rising behind the saguaro cactus in our front yard. Click on the image to enlarge.
