Catalina Rent-A-Cart Scenic Tour

On Catalina Island in Avalon, we rented a little golf cart putt-putt to take a tour up into the hills. After all the trips to Avalon, this is our first time onto the roads behind the city. The roads were narrow and too small for one of the tour vehicles to go, so this was a first for us.

We drove up to the nature center and looked around and then went up past the country club. We saw some of the areas that burned earlier this year when fires raged over much of the island. We also saw parts of the valley where the city of Avalon has expanded.

On one hilltop we stopped to take some pictures of the scenery below. I took this nice panorama from that hilltop. Click the image below for the full-sized scene.

Marriott Fountain

Now that I’m going to transfer to another facility, I will no longer have some of these pleasant places to walk to on my noontime walks. This is a panorama I made of the fountain in front of the Manhattan Beach Marriott Hotel. I will miss the nice places, but I’m still committed to take the walks, scenery or not. Zuma Beach

This one is out of the archives, and was actually imaged by Verna last year on our way home from the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley. This was taken from Pacific Coast Highway, State Route One, just inside the Los Angeles County Line. Zuma Beach stretches toward Point Dume in the distance. The Gardens in Balboa Park

One of the nicest things about San Diego’s Balboa Park is the gardens. This courtyard had meticulously maintained flowerbeds and hedges. You can see Verna across the yard taking pictures behind the fountain under the archway. Click the image below to see the full-sized panorama.

Manhattan Park Improvements

I’m not sure this is an improvement. This used to be a multi-purpose field with ball diamonds and soccer goals, all on a grassy surface. Lately, big trucks, dozers and cats have been grading the surface for who knows what. I’ll post a panorama of the final product later.

Panorama and Butterfly

Verna was in the back yard working today and a little butterfly fluttered into view. She was ready with her camera and got a shot of it (inset in the panorama). This is the back yard as seen from just behind the family room by the chimney.
