A Cool 1956 Buick Roadmaster

At least I think it’s that year and model, from what I could see when we drove past it in Williams, Arizona. We stopped there to get groceries and fuel during our winter vacation. Verna snapped this picture on our way through town.

Williams is a really nice little town along Interstate 40’s high country, just an hour south of the Grand Canyon. It snowed for four days straight prior to our trip through town. This Roadmaster is a really cool car, don’t ya think? Click on the image to enlarge.

3D Castle

castle and towerWhen we went through Death Valley last month, we went to Scotty’s Castle, which is a must see attraction there. The castle is only a part of the greater ranch that ‘Scotty’ actually did not build.

Out on the west part of the ranch property, there is a clocktower just behind the castle, both done up in renaissance style architecture. I took a stereo pair of images to later combine into this 3D view of the castle and tower. Click on the 3D image to see a larger version.

As usual, if you do not have a pair of 3D glasses, you can see the 2D version here.

Watchtower – Summer Version

When we were in Grand canyon National Park last month, the roads were so bad with ice and snow that travel to the Desert View site was definitely not recommended. While we were disappointed, we were also wary since having been stuck in the snow the night before, so we didn’t risk it. I didn’t get the snow shot of the Watchtower I wanted, so I’ll post this jumbo i took by combining two shots into one tall picture – wide too. Click on the image for big.

Inauguration Day

Verna and GeorgeWe watched the events unfolding in Washington DC today and they reminded us of the last time we were in DC together. It was 19 or 20 years ago – we visited most of the Smithsonian Museums and art galleries, Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Union Station and the mall monuments. We stayed in Georgetown while we were there.

At one point, Verna paused near the White House to pose for this picture with then President George H. W. Bush. Click 4 bigger.

Target Practice

Before the NFL playoff games started, we went to the shooting range today to do our weekly target practice. It was a lot of fun. When it came time for the shotguns, I put up a silhouette target. This video shows Verna blowing the first five holes in it with the 12 gauge Remington 870 security shotgun.

Play the video and look closely at the center of the target as five big holes get blown into it.

The After Lunch Walkabout

Now that I’m back in the Manhattan Beach office, I get to take summertime walks through Manhattan Village after I chow down. Summertime? It only seems like it. A couple of weeks ago, I had to wear a hooded jacket to walk to this exact spot.
