Nostalgic Drive-in Restaurant
Verna and I went off of our normally conservative low-cholesterol and low-fat diet regimen today in order to patronize Screamer’s, the old-time drive in diner in town. We went the whole route and ordered a cheeseburger with fries and a vanilla milk shake. Even though we split the burger and tossed half of the fries up in the wash for the critters, we felt quite full after enjoying a taste from the past. Click on the image to enlarge.
Devil’s Tongue Cactus Flower
It’s almost fall now and my Devil’s Tongue cactus is still producing lots of flower pods. This one opened up today. Click on the image to enlarge.
Verdin Nest
The Palo Verde tree on the road in front of our house has a verdin nest; it has been there for over a year. Now, it seems, there is one of the tiny birds roosting in it. According to the Stokes Field Guide to Birds, the male verdin builds several nests and the female chooses only one to roost. I’m glad that she chose this one. I like that idea; the male builds several nests for the female. 😀
The image above is the opening on the nest taken with the flash to illuminate the inside. I don’t see eggs or chicks but that doesn’t mean their are none.
