Tenderloin Weekend – Part II

grilled-tenderloin.jpgWe enjoyed these beautiful center-cut beef tenderloin steaks (a.k.a. Filet Mignon) grilled to medium-rare, topped with sautéed mushrooms. The steaks were served with butter-basted roasted-on-the-grill corn-on-the-cob, steamed broccoli florets and asparagus spears.

I went to the butcher counter on Thursday when we were doing the weekly grocery shopping. I told the butcher on duty that I did not see any beef tenderloin steaks in the meat cooler. He offered to cut me a couple from a fresh beef tenderloin. The man was kind enough to cut two from the center of the tenderloin and wrapped them for us. “That’s where I would want mine to come from,” he said.

Damn, the steaks and the whole meal were wonderful!

Panoramic Image From Across the Road

Verna and I went across the road to a neighbor’s place to check on his dog while he was away. I looked back across the road toward our house and got this panoramic image from the hill where the neighbor’s house is located. Click on the image to see the full panorama.

Hummingbird Feeder

Verna put out a hummingbird feeder a few days ago. The little hummingbirds have been coming around to check it out. Today I got this brief footage of one of the little guys helping itself to some of the nectar.

Yes, that’s a railroad lantern hanging above the feeder. $3 at Family Dollar. 🙂

Saguaro Sunset

There was a pleasantly pink sunset this evening, so I went out and photographed the event with our beautiful saguaro cactus in the foreground. Click on the image to enlarge.

Cooper’s Hawk

This handsome fellow showed up in the back of the house today, much to the dismay of the smaller birds upon which he preys. He perched for a few seconds on a dead branch before flying away after his next catch. I managed to get this photo before he flew away. What a pretty raptor! Click on the image to enlarge.
