Sunday Dinner

We might be a little short of furnishings and decoration, but we’re not going to scrimp on our cuisine. This is today’s dinner – country style barbecued pork ribs (with Verna’s killer homemade BBQ sauce), asparagus spears, the all-important beans and coleslaw. I enjoyed a bottle of Samuel Adams Winter Lager and Verna sipped a glass of Kendall Jackson Chardonnay. We ate this sumptuous dinner on the patio table and chairs which are temporarily serving as our dining room furniture. Click on the image to enlarge.

New Patio Set

patio-set.jpgDuring the past week, we went to Lowe’s and purchased some pieces for our patio. The chairs were already assembled but we had to assemble the table ourselves. After a lot of struggling with the primitive tools that came with the parts and some tools I bought last week, we finally got it together. Next time, I’m paying the assembly fee and save myself the blister I got.

Verna picked out some southwestern seat cushions for the chairs (pattern in the inset). Click on the image to enlarge.

Cabela’s Squeaky Toy

Hi – this is Cabela. I am at the new house with my hoomins and Bear. We don’t have a lot of furniture yet but I do have my squeaky toy and a lot of other toys. I just love to play with my toys and I especially like to play with the squeaky toy. I like to make it go squeak and I like to chew on it.

You can watch me squeaking my toy. The Daddy took this movie of me in the new house while I was playing.

Verna’s Panorama

On Tuesday, Verna climbed to the top of the little hill behind our house and took a couple of shots of the house and the surrounding area. I usually do the panoramas but I was talking to the construction crew that came to install the cable feed. Later, when I was looking at the pictures she took I thought that the pair from the hill would make a nice panoramic image so I stitched them together. Green Saguaro, Blue Sky

We drove down the Surprise today to pick up some things for the new house at Wal Mart and Lowe’s. On our way back into town, I snapped this photo of a nice Saguaro Cactus against a very blue mid-afternoon sky. Click on the image to enlarge.

Permanent Cable Installation

trencher.jpgWe reported on our temporary cable installation over two weeks ago. A crew finally showed up today to dig the permanent trench and install the conduit to house the cable.

We were surprised by the extent of the installation process. Three men showed up with sophisticated equipment and had the entire job completed in less than three hours.

They had a pneumatic tool that bored holes through the earth, a pneumatic earth compactor and a gas-powered trench digger that cut an eight inch by one foot deep trench 30 feet long in less then five minutes. Verna photographed the trench digger while it was in action. Click on the image to enlarge.

Our internet and CATV is working just fine now, without the worry that one of the trucks bringing materials for our new courtyard will damage the cable that was buried in a shallow trench and had surfaced in some places on the road in front of the house.
