Hummingbird Feeder

Hummingbird Feeder

I went out back this afternoon with the camera to try and get a shot of a road runner that I saw up on the hill behind the RV drive. By the time I got my camera and came back out, the road runner had retreated to a place where I couldn’t get a decent picture of it. However, this cooperative hummingbird came and perched on one of the feeders. Click on the image to enlarge.

Butterfly and the Red Bird of Paradise

Butterfly and Red BirdAmong the main reasons I wanted the Red Bird of Paradise shrubs in the courtyard was to attract hummingbirds and butterflies. I am not disappointed since both species frequently browse the flowers of not only the red birds, but the sage flowers as well, when they are present. With second spring coming, the sages should also have more flowers to attract the critters.

In addition to the hummers and butterflies, this year we began noticing Sphinx Moths, sometimes called “Hummingbird Moths” browsing both the red birds and the rosemary bushes out back. Interesting little critters, they are about ⅓ the size of hummers but act quite the same.

I photographed this encounter with a very pretty black butterfly about to descend upon one of the clusters of flowers on the red bird closest to the middle of the courtyard. Click on the image to enlarge.

A Dip in the Dog Park Tub

Dip in the Tub

The Mama and the Daddy took us to the dog park today. We haven’t been there in a long time. I had fun. I took a dip in the little tub they keep near the water fountains.

Cabela and I liked being in the dog park so much that we didn’t want to go home. We took a little ride afterwards so I can get used to being in the new truck. Click on me to make me big.

The New Ride

The New Ride

Verna took this photo of our two little dogs today, while in transit to California. This was their first LONG ride in the new truck. We had to head out to the old stomping grounds to take care of business and visit with family.

Despite looking disoriented and anxious, they rode pretty good today. Bay Bay is always uncomfortable when we go on the road; we don’t know why, but we assume he had a bad experience with going for a ride. Eventually, he calms down and gets relaxed. Today, he remained a little more anxious than usual, probably because it is a new truck. He is keenly aware of any changes to his environment. Both of the dogs are very smart and surprise us with their insight into matters where we might not expect.

Coolin’ Her Heels

Coolin’ Her Heels

It’s hard for a dark-colored dog in the desert sun running barefoot on the hot sand on the road in front of the house. That’s why we have a wading pool for them when they get back on the patio. Bay Bay voluntarily jumps in the pool, but little Cabela has to be helped in. Once she’s there, she appreciates the Mama dipping her and rubbing cool water on her skin. Playing Catch with the Squeaky Toys

Playing Catch

Sometimes I like to have the Daddy or the Mama throw my squeaky toys in the air. I will then jump up and catch the toy and shake it and squeak it. It is fun for me. I like to play. Click on the Daddy’s picture of me catching my wally gator toy to make me big.
