Critters

Scavengers

Scavengers

Verna puts most food scraps in the compost, but when it comes to citrus scraps, these orange peels are too acidic for the compost worms. Not to worry, though, the critters in the wash will take care of the leftovers.

Here, a white-tailed antelope squirrel and a curve billed thrasher try to extract the goodness from the peels. Click on the image to enlarge.

Roadrunner

Roadrunner

We saw this roadrunner as we were leaving Mom’s retirement ranch. It was scampering through a neighbor’s yard with something in its mouth (a lizard, I think). Click on the image to enlarge.

Wikipedia says this about the roadrunner’s diet and foraging habits:

Food and foraging habits

Roadrunners are omnivores and are opportunistic. Their diet normally consists of insects (such as grasshoppers, crickets, caterpillars, and beetles), small reptiles (such as lizards and snakes, including rattlesnakes), rodents and small mammals, tarantulas, scorpions, centipedes, spiders, snails, small birds, eggs, nestlings, and fruits and seeds like prickly pear cactus and sumac. Because of its quickness, the roadrunner is one of the few animals that preys upon rattlesnakes.

Bay Bay Goes For A Swim

The Mama and the Daddy took Cabela and me to the dog park today. When we get there, the Mama puts water in the tub because she knows I like to get in and swim sometimes. The Daddy took this movie of me swimming today. It is fun and I like it. I like the dog park.

Female Cardinal in a Mesquite Tree

Female Cardinal in a Mesquite Tree

The two main reasons we have bird feeders is to attract birds is a) to enjoy seeing the birds they attract and b) to photograph the birds. This colorful female of the cardinal species visited the feeder and then perched in the mesquite tree just above the RV drive behind our patio. Click on the image to enlarge.

Cabela Likes Going for a Walk

Cabela

The Daddy took a picture of me while we were out on the road going for a walk. I like sniffing the ground, chasing lizards, barking at traffic and all the other fun things that dogs like to do. When I want to go out, I run to the Daddy or the Mama and jump up and make noise so they will take me. Yes, I am a spoiled little dog. Click on the image to make me big.
