Now that the floral department in our supermarket has started getting Asian lilies again, I can look for my favorite Stargazers to bring home to the flower vase. I took this close-up of one of the fragrant ‘gazers a couple of days ago. Flowers are still opening on the stems in the vase. Click on the image to enlarge.
When we originally had the big saguaro cactus transplanted to our property, there was only one hole in the upper arms. Now, there are four (three visible in this photo). I spotted a woodpecker boring the hole on the right the other day.
Saguaros, common to the Sonoran desert regions of Arizona are a habitat for several types of birds. Cactus Wrens, Dwarf Owls, Woodpeckers, Verdins and a variety of other birds call the saguaro their home for raising their chicks in the springtime. We’re hoping that some of them will make the big cactus their own.
Palace in Italian is “Palazzo” which is the model of the new RV we expect to take delivery on next week. We’re towing our old trailer and will also transport out current RV to the dealer to trade in on the new palace.
The new motorhome is four feet longer than the one we’re trading in, and has a wheelbase of eighteen and a third feet which is only 2.3 feet longer than current. I estimate we can get the new rig in our RV drive OK, but will be exercising extreme caution when we park it here the first time.
After we bring it home and move all the household items into it, our maiden voyage should be just after Valentine’s day on an excursion to see little Jerry, the grandson. After that, possibly in April, we will take the palace to northern California to welcome our second great grandchild, baby Maci, into the world.
We seldom (almost never) are out after dark, but earlier this week we became detained in Mesa, east of Phoenix, transacting a deal for a new motorhome. The result of that late start home was 1) encountering rush hour traffic, and 2) driving home after dusk.
It so happens that our route to and from Mesa, takes us through a very scenic part of Maricopa County, abound with saguaro and teddy bear cholla cactus. I took the image above after the sun had set on AZ Hwy 74 between Carefree and Morristown. Click on the image to enlarge.
We managed to escape a few showers that were moving through the area today in order to cook our entrée on the grill behind the patio. There were showers early in the morning and then a reprise until after we finished dinner and put the grill away before some shower activity resumed.

Our delicious meal consisted of Grilled Chateaubriand with Carrot/Snow Peas Medley and Mashed Potatoes. The roast was part of a beef tenderloin that we bought a couple of weeks ago. The side dishes were also very good.
I haven’t done one of these in a while, so here it is: Desert Motorhome Camping in 3D. The Emerald Desert RV Resort doesn’t much look like the typical desert in Southern California due to the lush green grass everywhere. But it certainly does get hot there in the summer and cool, but not cold, in the winter.
