How Saguaro Happens – Part Last (We Hope)

How Saguaro Happens

Finally, we have a replacement for the saguaro cactus that fell over about a year ago. The landscaping crew arrived this morning to transplant a large saguaro from Aguila (about 25 miles west of here) to the place where the old cactus stood before it succumbed to root rot. The new one has a lot of arms and we’re looking forward to seeing lots of saguaro flowers next spring on the new cactus. Click on the image to enlarge.

Moved the RV Today

RV in new spot

Despite the 110° temperature today, I hitched up the trailer and moved it back in the RV drive. (Actually, I pulled it down to the road and back up to its present position.) We wanted to restore our view of the little wash and bird feeders above the drive again.

As a bonus, I also managed to jockey the trailer into a spot where it is now possible to drive a normal-sized vehicle past the trailer and down the drive on the west side. Click on the image to enlarge.

What’s For Dinner?

Verna ran across a couple of recipes that she tried today. What a knockout! Salisbury steaks with Dijon-Havarti mashed potatoes and gravy. Also steamed broccoli. It was a great meal for a wonderful Sunday inj Arizona. Click on the image to enlarge.

Courtyard – One Year Progress

A few days ago, Verna posted a photo of the courtyard in bloom. I was looking through the archives from about a year ago and found a similar photo of the courtyard as it then appeared. I made a mini-slideshow using the two photos to compare then and now. Of particular note is the Cleveland sage growth in just a year. Click the image to alternate between the two.

Verna spotted this nicely-restored ’55 Chevy stepside pickup parked in a lot on the way home from shopping today. This was one of my favorites as a kid. My Dad took us boys to a General Motors Autorama in Los Angeles when I was about 12, and I got to sit in the driver’s seat in a brand-new stepside. Click on the image to enlarge.

Overdue Target Practice

We had sort of a busy day today. We took the dogs to the groomer for baths and a haircut for the big girl. That gave us a little time on our hands to get some things done. We went Christmas shopping (yes, in July), took Verna’s S&W 442 pistol to the Gun Trader for some cleanup, did some other shopping for provisions and then went to the range for some badly needed practice.

The shooting went well after some problems getting the target set up. The club renovated the pistol bays and the old target stand rails were gone, so we had to improvise on a target stand. The weather gave us a little break since it only got up to around 102° today.
