OOPS!

spa-level.jpgI drained the spa a couple of weeks ago to flush the pipes out and clean the filter. Today, I went to refill it and accidentally let it overflow. Verna came to the rescue and bailed out a bunch of water to put on her garden plants and some of the shrubs around the house and courtyard.

The level in the picture is about five inches higher than it should be. Click on the image to enlarge.

Nest Duty

I took this photo of one of the curve-billed thrasher parents sitting in the nest yesterday. Verna peeked in the nest earlier and saw that the three eggs still had not hatched. The cholla where the bird is sitting is about 20 feet in front of the courtyard where I captured the image. Click to enlarge.

Lunch

One of the best things about retirement is the food. Verna prepared today’s lunch with a commercial salad kit and some left over NY steak, served with a cold spicy drink, this lunch was filling but not heavy and the drink refreshing on a 105° day. Click on the image to enlarge.

Northeast Corner Panoramic Image

I hiked up to the marker that defines the northeast corner of our property. I took a series of images from the corner panning from south to west. This is the view from the top of our lot.

Our lot is about a half acre. The pad where the house sits is about a third of the total property. We like the isolation from the houses to the north and west. This allows the wildlife to run as they will up here. It’s sort of like an entertainment center that we don’t have to subscribe to! Italian Luncheon

Yesterday, Verna prepared this sumptuous Italian-style lunch. She made a tasty antipasto salad and penne rigate pasta with turkey marinara sauce and garlic toast. Sje poured a shot of limoncello on the side as a digestivo. Good stuff! Click on the image to enlarge.

Javelina Crossing

javelina-xing.jpgI planted three sign posts this week – two to accommodate no trespassing signs near both entrances to the RV drive, and one in the wash behind the house. I bought the no trespassing signs when we bought the other materials, so they were installed on Tuesday.

Today, the “JAVELINA XING” sign arrived in the mail. I installed it on the post in the wash. Verna took this photo.

The sign is installed approximately where we have seen javelina in the past. Verna took the image below to show the location of the sign next to the RV drive. Click on either image to enlarge.
