JFK Memorial Fountain in 3D

jfl-memorial.pngThis fountain is located on Cabrillo and Marcelina in Old Downtown Torrance. The fountain is a gift to the city of Torrance from Mrs. Celia Pons. The fountain was dedicated to the memory of the Late President on September 14, 1964.

Anybody that can remember November 22, 1963 will almost certainly remember where they were and what they were doing when they got the news about the slain president. My ‘where I was and what I was doing’ story takes me back to when I was on active duty in the U.S. Navy. I was stationed at the Naval Air Station, Point Mugu, California. After driving one of the Pilots to the administration building, I was returning to the flight line in the division’s Jeep. One of the division petty officers was in his car in the parking lot listening to the radio. He said “they shot the president!” For the next few days, the base commander directed all sailors to wear dress or undress blues instead of the usual dungarees. I remember riding back to Santa Monica along the coastline (SR 1) and seeing a throng of media outside of the beachfront home belonging to Peter Lawford who was married to one of Kennedy’s sisters. Radio stations played nothing but dreadful dirge music, as I recall.

Doggie Direction Finder

doggie direction finderI set up a couple of webcams at home so I can remotely monitor what’s going on in the house. I also like to see what Verna is up to – between the chatroom and the webcam, she virtually keeps me company when she’s at the computer and when I’m at my desk.

Today, when she returned from visiting Mom and Dad, she let Bear in and was puttering about getting ready to get back to the computer. Although you can’t see Verna in any of these frames, you know in which direction she is off camera, thanks to our Doggie Direction Finder (DDF)

In the top frame, the DDF is detecting Verna to be in the vicinity of the little fridge or the little TV. In the second frame, the DDF indicates that she is in the living room or dining room. Finally, in the bottom frame, the DDF locates her in the kitchen.

Maybe I can get the DDF patented . . .

WOMANCEWhile visiting Mom and Dad a couple of weeks ago, I snapped this 3D image of Verna’s little convertible. It was parked in the driveway and I leaned over the gate to get the pair of images needed to combine into this 3D image.

Ready to Rumble

This is Bear. She adores jumping in the back of the SUV to take a ride, no matter how far. After coming home from the range today, Verna took this picture of Bear after loading her into the truck for a ride around the block. Click image to enlarge.

Doves in a Palm Tree

We went over to Mom and Dad’s place today. While visiting in the back yard, Mom heard the doves cooing behind the garage. We went behind the garage and saw these two perched on a palm frond. Click image to enlarge.
