Cleaning Up the Guns

We went to the firing range today and shot our 9mm and .45 cal pistols. We also put about 25 rounds through each of the 12 and 20 gauge shotguns. Verna is seen here putting the barrel back on her Remington 870 20 gauge shotgun after giving it a thorough cleaning and lube.

The Restless Sea

This picture that Verna took several weeks ago has been sitting in the picture queue since then. It’s time that we posted it here.

The picture was taken on one of those windy days where the sea was choppy and the waves were big. Notice the green translucent water in the curl of this wave. Very nice.

Winter Gazanias

I believe this variety of gazania is called the ‘tiger hybrid.’ These are in a pot on the patio, but are suitable to be used as ground cover in well-drained areas. When we get ready to finish the back yard landscaping, these are going to be considered for cover around the trees and other features planned.

Surprisingly, Verna did not take this photo. I snapped it one morning during my Christmas Vacation.

Family Affair

When the weather gets a little damp, that doesn’t keep us from our weekly session cleaning guns after the trip to the firing range. Today, we set up our table under the canopy and put up the folding chairs so we could get the job done while still enjoying the patio. Even Bear gets involved with it. Notice the little ice cream cup on the table. It’s actually a ‘Frosty Paw’ – a frozen dog treat that she knows is there and is anxious to consume.

Portuguese Bend Landslide

According the the Natural Sciences Department at Cal State University Long Beach, this is a translational landslide. Slides like this move pretty slow. This one, in particular, has moved about 600 feet over the past 50 years. The motion is enough, however, to keep the road builders and line painters busy along this stretch of Palos Verdes Drive South. After a few months movement, however, it looks as it does in this shot taken by Verna last week.

New Years Eve

We took a drive today in the convertible since it was such a nice day. Verna drove us to Malaga Cove and afterwards to get some DVDs to watch on the new TV tonight.
