Petroglyphs Along US 60

For as long as we have been traveling back and forth between California and Arizona, today marked the first time we stopped to see these Native American petroglyphs along US 60 near Salome, AZ. According to a guide book we bought in a NPS visitor center, some of these could be as old a 1,700 years. Click on the image to enlarge.

Spring Cactus Flowers

Spring has sprung in the desert! The high temperatures here over the past several days have been between 80 and 95 degrees and the cacti flowers have been popping open like crazy. This slideshow is a sample of the flowers that I have photographed over the past few days. You can pause the slideshow by rolling your mouse over the images and resume by rolling out.

Sun Bow

We were in the patio this afternoon when this sun bow appeared in the cirrus clouds low in the western sky. We can’t remember seeing any of these as vivid as this one when we were in California, Click on the image to enlarge.

Native Beavertail Cactus Flower

We took a beavertail cactus cutting from the wash behind the new house and transplanted it to the rock and cactus garden by the RV drive a couple of weeks ago. Today, it produced its first magenta flower. Many more to come in the future, we hope. Click on the image to enlarge.
