Arizona House Progress Report

Most of the electrical fixtures we picked out have been installed except for a few. Unfortunately, two of the sconces Verna selected for the front of the house were broken in the box. After a little discussion, we decided to take them back to the store for credit and to order some custom sconces now. Verna eventually wanted to do this anyhow, so this turn of events made our minds up.

In the panorama below, you can see the garage door has been installed and the air conditioner/heater unit is in place on the roof. We went up to the front door today where the doorbell button was and pressed it. To our surprise, we heard the bell go DING DONG!

Electrical Fixtures Installed

fixtures.jpgVerna and I picked up the last two fixtures for the new house today – two fluorescent overhead light bars for the garage. When we delivered them to the house we were pleased to see that a number of the others we brought on Tuesday had already been installed.

Gambel’s Quail

Yesterday, I bought some wild animal food at the local variety store. We went to the new house and distributed it in the little wash area next to the house where we previously saw some quail.

Today, we went back to take some electrical fixtures to the house and there were a dozen or more of these little guys in the wash having a good old quail party! Click on the image to enlarge.

From Wikipedia:

The Gambel’s Quail, ‘Callipepla gambelii’, is a small ground-dwelling bird in the New World quail family. It inhabits the desert regions of Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Texas, and Sonora; also New Mexico-border Chihuahua and the Colorado River region of Baja California. The Gambel’s quail is named in honor of William Gambel, a 19th century naturalist and explorer of the Southwestern United States.

Lake Pleasant Panoramic Views

We took a ride out to Lake Pleasant, AZ today. It was a beautiful day in central Arizona, so we took time out from the new house to take a scenic drive to the lake. While we were there, I snapped several shots of the lake and dam to stitch together into these panoramic images. Click on a thumbnail to see the full sized panorama.

Shopping for Electrical Fixtures

soooo-many.jpgThis morning we took the dogs to daycare and drove to Surprise, AZ to shop for electrical fixtures for the new house. Our builder gave us a list of what the electricians needed to complete their installation.

There were so many choices to consider. On the other hand, there were few items that matched up with our ideas of fixtures for a southwestern style home.

We agonized our way through selecting the best compromises for the list as we saw them. After an hour or so, we had a large cart (one of the really big lumber transporters) filled with fans, chandeliers, sconces, vanity bars and the like. We dropped them off at the new house and advised our builder.

Soon, we hope, we will be able to post some of the results. Click on the image to enlarge.

Here’s Our Sign

heres-your-sign.jpgWe’re back in Wickenburg tonight. We will be here all week to select electrical and plumbing fixtures for the new house.

As we pass into Ehrenberg, Arizona, this big sign alongside Interstate 10 welcomes us to the “Grand Canyon State.” It’s a welcome beacon to us since this is Verna’s birth state and our new home.
