Nectar Collector

Nectar Collector

The little blue flowers on the rosemary bushes behind the house are very popular these days. There are usually a lot of honey bees and a few occasional goldfinches browsing. This is a very pretty black and gold butterfly that was one of several different varieties of butterflies gathering nectar yesterday. Click on the image to enlarge.

Plunge

Plunge

Besides pooping and lifting his leg at the dog park, Bay Bay’s favorite thing to do is get in the little tub they have there and splash around. When we arrive inside the park, the dogs take off and run around doing their off-the-leash thing. Meanwhile, Verna will fill the little tub with water. By and by, Bay Bay will charge back to the water station, jump in the tub and splash around for a while before jumping out and resuming previous activities until it’s time to ride home. The Mama Walking with Bay Bay

The Mama Walking with Bay Bay

Cabela and I get to go walking with the Mama and the Daddy several times a day. When the Mama and Daddy eat lunch, they give us treats and then we get to go for the long walk. The Daddy took this picture of the Mama and me on our way back home from the walk. Click on us to make us big.

Honey Bee

Honey Bee

Today was a warm, spring-like day here in Wickenburg. We think, but are not sure, that the colder winter days are behind us now.

As soon as you walk out of the back door onto the patio, you can hear the buzzing of the honey bees gathering nectar from the seventy-or-so rosemary bushes that line the RV drive. I took my camera over close to the the rosemary and took several photos of the bees doing their thing.

The bee in the photo above had lighted on a blossom and I managed to get a shot of its stationary transparent wings. Click on the image to enlarge.

Goldfinches at the Feeder

Goldfinches at the Feeder

I am still playing with the new camera and telephoto lens. A couple of days ago, I was out in the courtyard looking for photo shots. I stood about ten yards yards away from Verna’s finch feeder in front of the courtyard and captured this photo of several goldfinches perched there. This particular feeder has six perches and all are usually occupied. There were two open perches in this image. Click on the image to enlarge.

Waiting for Breakfast

Waiting for Breakfast

No matter what I did to try and get the dogs to look at the camera, they remained riveted on the kitchen where the Mama was fixing their breakfast. They remained focused like this until hearing the carton of cottage cheese open up which means they get to lick the spoon after the Mama loads some in their dishes. Then, in a blink of an eye, they dash for the kitchen.

They both are very smart and perceptive. Bay Bay used to be afraid of the meat grinder and would hide in his “man cave” behind the sofa. Now, when he hears the grinder stop, he comes out expecting to get some of the raw meat and bread left in the screw. He and Cabela each get a little of the “bread and beef tartare.”

Cabela figured out that I keep a jar of peanuts at my desk and can hear when I open the lid so she comes expecting a nut. She usually gets one and in order to be fair so does Bay Bay.
