Double Trouble

This is Bear speaking. I guess I got into trouble with my hoomins because I was chewing on my skin so much it was getting raw. They make me wear this double thingy because I was bending the single one and chewing anyhow. I don’t really like these things, but I get more attention since they take them off when I eat, drink or go to the sandbox. Then it goes back on again. Darn!

Japanese Garden Koi Pond

The new Japanese garden feature at the Botanic Garden installed a pond water feature. We were there last year and saw the aquarium guys stocking it with Koi. They were fingerlings then, but now they’re much larger. These lovely and colorful marine critters add to the tranquility of the Asian-themed garden.

Pelicans at Point Vicente

On a whim, we drove over the Palos Verdes Peninsula today to Point Vicente. We thought that it might be a picturesque day and we were not disappointed.

It was a spectacular day, with azure skies, puffy white clouds, blue pacific waters and flocks of California Brown Pelicans soaring the updrafts along the cliffs on the south side of the peninsula. I captured this picture of some Browns rounding the point by the whale watching center. The Point Vicente Lighthouse is in the background with Santa Catalina Island in the distance. Going Camping with My Hu-mins

This is my hu-lady walking me. I recognize her name as ‘mama.’ She loves me. My hu-man, ‘daddy,’ took this picture of me walking with mama to the smelly place where I GO when we camp.

Peacock Sighting at Mom and Dad’s House

moms-peacock.jpgMy sister, Carol, heard what she described as an animal sound coming from behind the garage the other day. I asked what it sounded like – she imitated what I thought sounded like an elephant. She also said that she could hear something in a tree out there. Elephants in trees? Probably not.

Since she didn’t want to go out there, I decided to venture out to see what this mystery beast was all about. Imagine my surprise when I saw this peacock strutting across the top of one of the neighbor’s travel trailer just across the fence from the back part of the yard.

It was a beautiful bird, one of the prettiest I’ve seen, although it’s tail feathers were kind of mucked up like something ‘almost’ caught it one time. And it moved quite quickly too. It just wouldn’t pose for me, as I tried to get a picture.

Update: BB took a picture of the peacock later in the day:

Doggie Direction Finder

doggie direction finderI set up a couple of webcams at home so I can remotely monitor what’s going on in the house. I also like to see what Verna is up to – between the chatroom and the webcam, she virtually keeps me company when she’s at the computer and when I’m at my desk.

Today, when she returned from visiting Mom and Dad, she let Bear in and was puttering about getting ready to get back to the computer. Although you can’t see Verna in any of these frames, you know in which direction she is off camera, thanks to our Doggie Direction Finder (DDF)

In the top frame, the DDF is detecting Verna to be in the vicinity of the little fridge or the little TV. In the second frame, the DDF indicates that she is in the living room or dining room. Finally, in the bottom frame, the DDF locates her in the kitchen.

Maybe I can get the DDF patented . . .
