Bear Mountain

bear-mountain.jpgThe hoomins took me to a mountain place today. It was in the desert but was also on a mountain. I liked chasing the lizards and smelling the stuff there.

This is me and the Daddy sitting on a wall at almost the top of the mountain. After the Mama took this picture (click to make me big), I got back in the truck and after we started down the road, I took a nap.

Homesteading in Arizona

homestead.jpgForging a lifestyle change, we engaged a real estate broker in Arizona last week to start negotiating with a contractor to build a home for us. Today, we met with the broker, and started the process.

We went to a model with a similar floor plan to the home we’re considering. We liked what we saw – a lot. After that, we went to the actual site where the new home is to be constructed. The clickable image is of yours truly discussing options, firearms and the new Arizona laws regarding illegal immigrants with our broker on the lot where the house will be constructed – that’s me in the aloha shirt and panama hat. It’s nice to work with a businessman on the same page with us.

We will meet with the contractor tomorrow to begin customizing the new digs.

As for the house in the Golden Tarnished State, we will be making trips back there (after establishing residence here). We will have to dispose of our vast accumulation of stuff and to get the house on the market.

Even though I am a native Californian, I qualify for honorary Arizona naturalization by virtue of being married to Verna, a native Arizonan. I am truly blessed.

Bertable Ride

bertable-ride.jpgI got a ride in the Mama’s bertable today. We rode to the lighthouse place and walked to the whale watcher place. Then we walked back to the bertable and got in for more riding.

I like to ride in the bertable ’cause the top is down and I get more wind in my face and more stuff to smell. When I get to ride in the back seat of the Daddy’s truck he only opens the windows a little bit.

I had fun riding and sniffing and walking and riding today. OK, I guess I will take a nap now.

Peach Blossoms

The little peach tree in Mom’s front yard is full of blossoms. I took this close-up of some of them today when we visited her today. Click on the image to enlarge.

Celebration

moms-family.jpg

Today we celebrated Mom’s 90th birthday. Family and friends from all over the area flocked to Kate’s party. The photo above is me, my sister Krystal and Mom. Click to see the full-sized version.

Joining Mom today were both of her surviving children, several grand children, one of many great grandchildren and even a great-great grandchild. Many of her friends from the Salvation Army post where Mom served were in attendance.

Belated Happy 90th Birthday To My Mom

Mom's Wedding PictureKate, as she prefers to be called, was born April 23rd in 1920. I have this old photo from her wedding taken in December of 1938 when she married my Dad. She has four children and a bunch of grand and great-grand children.

We’re having a celebration for her tomorrow to be held in her home in the north San Fernando Valley, CA.

I just hope that I have the genes from her side of the family tree. Her Dad lived until his late 80’s and his mother was 94 when she checked into the Cloud Ritz Hotel.
