Home on the Range

We spent part of our day at the indoor shooting range doing some target practice. It was cool outside but on the range we were right at home warming up our firearms and sharpening up our accuracy. Here’s a photo of Verna as she draws a bead with her 20 gauge Remington 870 on a paper target at 7 yards.

We really had a lot of fun shooting today. Click the picture above to enlarge.

Yellow and Orange Rose

Today, we drove down to my Mom and Dad’s house to visit. While we were there, I found this pretty rose growing in one of Mom’s flowerbeds. Of course I had to take a picture of it.

Christmas Lights 2008

Here is our house with the final layer of Christmas Lights. We scaled down the display this year to save a little electricity. There are four strings of colored C9s (100 feet) and four strings of little white icicle lights (about 80 feet). Around the front window is a string of twinkle lights with colored bulbs. In reserve to be used next year, maybe, we have net lights for the bushes and rope lights for the trees.

First Home

daisy-house.jpgThis is the house I lived in when my Mom brought me home from the hospital after giving birth to me. My Dad was off in the Mediterranean fighting Germany and Italy on board a US Navy Destroyer, the USS Brooklyn. I did not meet my dad until I was eighteen months old. Mom and my grandparents held down the fort in the meantime. Grandma and Grandpa lived a short distance away and seemed to be in the house most of the time.

One of my earliest recollections in this house was when Mom took me and my older brother into the small hallway between the living room and the bedrooms. She stuffed blankets under the doors to block in any light as she sat on the floor reading to us, explaining that we were having a ‘blackout’ since Imperial Japanese submarines may have been spotted off the California coastline. This was in 1945, before the end of the War in the Pacific.

Verna and I drove by the old house while we were out doing stuff today. Click the thumbnail to see larger size.

Tiny Blue Flowers

Mom was admiring these tiny blue flowers growing on a shrub in the “Healing Garden” just outside the hospital room where Dad is resting. I took this picture to show to Mom at some later time.
