These two mesas near Moab, Utah are named Monitor and Merrimac, after the Ironclad Civil War vessels. This is just one of the many panoramic images I made today. More later. Click for the full sized panorama.
Panoramas
Anticipation
The mere act of planning a vacation brings on the anticipation of the fun and relaxing times to come. When we plan for the route and accommodations, we invariably get vacationer’s syndrome – a severe case of wanderlust.
We find ourselves digging through the photos from vacations past and pine for the feeling one gets when on the road. We found these two panoramas of the Colorado River and Lake Havasu from Parker Dam that we posted last year. Panoramic vistas are nice, but the real thing can’t be beat.

South Palos Verdes Panorama
During a drive on Saturday, I captured a series of images and patched them together to create this panoramic image. From left to right, you can see the new development going on at the old Marineland site and the Palos Verdes Fishing Access Cove. In the haze in the distance, Catalina Island can be seen. This was a cool place to visit on a rather warm day.
Point Vicente Whale Watching Site
I took a series of snapshots with my Canon A710IS while I stood on the main observation deck of the Point Vicente Interpretive Center. At home, I used the photo stitch utility that comes with the camera to create this nice panoramic view of the main whale watching area at the center. From left to right you can see the Point Vicente Lighthouse, Catalina Island and Verna with camera in hand holding Bear‘s leash. Further right is the pathway along the cliffs, the Malibu mountains in the distance and finally the top of the amphitheater at the right.
You don’t have to pick out the features in the thumbnail below – you can click on the image for a closer look.
Upper Meadow at the Botanic Garden
This is a panoramic view of the upper meadow at the South Coast Botanic Garden. The Garden Foundation has this area set aside for special events. You can charter (for a fee) the area for weddings or other events. On the left and right edges of the panorama you can see the two pergola- covered paved patios which are adjacent to the meadow. Just to the left of center is the gazebo which is can be used as a stage for events. This panorama view subtends nearly 180 degrees. Click on the image below for the full-sized image.
Rose Garden Panorama
We went to the South Coast Botanic Garden today. We love to go there and see all the spring colors. Today, the rose garden was fully in bloom and ablaze with colors. Here’s a panorama of about half of the rose garden. Click on the pan below to see full-sized in the image viewer.
We love visiting the garden at any time of the year- there’s always something beautiful blooming – but spring is very special.
