Favorite Places

Regular readers know that we visit the Point Vicente Interpretive Center on a frequent basis. A week ago, we visited and I set up my camera on a post to take this time delayed image of us admiring the Blue Pacific.

Early Spring Daisies

We regularly take a walk after dinner. Along the several routes we use we see our neighbors’ flowers as we pass them. Since we’re having a little pre-spring warm spell, the daisies are all coming out. I took this shot of some daisies along the sidewalk. Verna and I both think this red-orange color is very nice. Crystal Valentine

crystal.jpgVerna loves Waterford® Crystal, so I got her these tableware pieces for a Valentine’s Day gift: a crystal butter dish and a pair of crystal salt & pepper shakers. Verna took these photos which I combined into the single picture at the right. Click on the image to enlarge.

I was afraid that Waterford was going to go out of business last year when they went into receivership. Fortunately, the crystal is still produced in several European locations even though the original factory in Waterford, Ireland is no longer in operation. She loves the crystal pieces so much that I would really hate to have seen the supply dry up. Now, I will still be able to get Waterford for her from time to time.

Point Vicente Panorama

Verna and I took a quick detour to point Vicente today after visiting the County Recycle Center. I snapped a series of images toward the point and Catalina Island and “stitched” them together to make the panorama below. Click on the thumbnail for the full-sized image.

Super Sunday

pulled-pork.jpgVerna and I prepared our Superbowl Sunday meal yesterday – we decided on pulled pork sandwiches served with blue cheese broccoli slaw and a dill pickle, a traditional Memphis pit BBQ meal.

I started the picnic roast (pork shoulder) in the crockpot early yesterday morning, throwing in some pepper, fruit juices, chopped onion and garlic cloves. We let it cook all day. When I pulled the pork it was literally falling off of the bone. I used a couple of forks to shred the meat and separate the lean stuff away from the fat.

Verna came up with a wonderful home made barbecue sauce with that tart southern cooked taste. She placed a scoop of the shredded pork on a bun and topped it with the sauce. It was the best.

We chowed down during the pregame show and took our after dinner walk at halftime. It was a great meal, a good football game and an all around great day – really a Super Sunday.
