Fourth Anniversary of our Retirement

We officially retired from the aerospace mill four years ago. We traveled some after the big day, often coming to Arizona to see the sights and to build Verna’s Dream Home. The banner above contains a slideshow of some of the photos Verna took while on the road and also two astronomical events; the Great Annular Solar Eclipse of May 20, 2012 taken from Page, Arizona and the June 5, 2012 transit of Venus across the solar disc. What’s for Dinner?

Verna and I got out the smoker this weekend and cooked up a chicken breast and a salmon steak. The former for her and the latter for me. She isn’t much interested in fish, so we had a “surf ‘n’ barnyard” meal. Would have been surf ‘n’ turf save for the lack of anything on the hoof included. Just for the record, both were delicious served with roasted/grilled corn-on-the-cob, asparagus and rice/lentil medley. Click on the salmon entree to view the chicken plate.

Kate

Kate

Yesterday, my Mom, Kate, passed from the Earth to her heavenly repose. She was 93½ years old. Ironically, she departed on what would have been my Dad’s and her first husband’s 99th birthday. Verna and I will miss her charming smile and vibrant personality. Click on the image to enlarge.

Inside the Wok

Inside the Wok

Verna cooked up this wonderful combination of beef tenderloin chunks, broccoli crowns and sugar snap peas in the wok today. This delightful combination of ingredients was served on a bed of white rice. Click on the image to enlarge.

Harvest Moon

Harvest Moon

Last night was the Harvest Moon. I took a photo of the moon rising behind the saguaro cactus in our front yard. Click on the image to enlarge.

Water Under the Bridge

Water Under the Bridge

This is the Hassayampa River which is rarely seen flowing at this point in Wickenburg. Today and last night, there were showers and thunderstorms over the whole area, resulting in whitewater flow under the pedestrian bridge. I’m sure the river has had more water than this, but this is the most we have seen in nearly three years since moving to Wickenburg. Photo courtesy of Verna. Click on the image to enlarge.
