Each holiday, volunteers from The American Legion here in town place dozens and dozens of flags around town, mostly on the main drags. Today, we were driving through town and Verna took this shot of a few of the many flags lining the streets of town. Click on the image to enlarge.
Verna and I prepared one of our favorite Tex-Mex dinners today, “Crazy Yellow Chicken Fajitas.” Similar to, but much better than, the well-known fast food chain’s version of this. We marinate the chicken breasts over night and then we bake them for an hour, finishing up on the hot grill. The chicken gets shredded and stuffed into flour tortillas along with the rice and beans. It’s a very tasty meal and better than El Pollo any day. Click on the image to enlarge.

Many bright nebulae and star clusters in planet Earth’s sky are associated with the name of astronomer Charles Messier, from his famous 18th century catalog. His name is also given to these two large and remarkable craters on the Moon. Standouts in the dark, smooth lunar Sea of Fertility or Mare Fecunditatis, Messier (left) and Messier A have dimensions of 15 by 8 and 16 by 11 kilometers respectively. Their elongated shapes are explained by an extremely shallow-angle trajectory followed by the impactor, moving left to right, that gouged out the craters. The shallow impact also resulted in two bright rays of material extending along the surface to the right, beyond the picture. Intended to be viewed with red/blue glasses (red for the left eye), this striking stereo picture of the crater pair was recently created from high resolution scans of two images (AS11-42-6304, AS11-42-6305) taken during the Apollo 11 mission to the moon.
Mom recently moved to a larger room at the ranch. This time, her view is of the facility courtyard and fountain. She is really pleased with this room and enjoys having a private bathroom. I took this photo out of her window today when Verna and I were visiting. Click on the image to enlarge.
Last week, the activity director at the Retirement Ranch asked Mom to play “Happy Birthday” on the piano for one of the other residents there. I took this photo of her warming up for the event. She did GREAT! Click on the image to enlarge.
