Two Years Ago – Courtyard Progress

About two years ago, we contracted Kevin to build our courtyard. There happened to be a very nice sunset in progress then after the delivery of materials had arrived. We were still sleeping on a mattress and box spring on the floor of the office in those days.

Here’s the original post:

blocksA truck with a forklift delivered five palettes of concrete blocks and two palettes of mortar to the house today. We expect that the masons will show up any time this week to continue working on the courtyard.

We are looking forward to finishing the courtyard and getting gates installed so we can let the dogs out in the daytime.

A crew is scheduled to show up tomorrow to permanently install the internet/TV cable. When we had the cable installed a couple of weeks ago, the technician had to dig a temporary ditch to bury the cable feed to the terminal across the road. Lately, the cable has been exposed in a few places which made us worry that it might be damaged.

Junk Food Thursday

Junk Food

Verna and I eat mostly healthy, home-cooked meals, but once a month on the fourth Thursday of the month, we imbibe in some of the town’s best junk food. Today, we went to Screamers, home of the best burgers in town.

We got a Screamer with cheese, an order of fries and a vanilla milkshake. We don’t get two orders because we can split the burger, split the shake and take a few fries from the huge order they give us. Of course, we share what’s left of the fries with the dogs and our little furry friends up in the wash behind the house. Click on the image to enlarge.

Red Amaryllis

Red Amaryllis

Two of the four amaryllis buds opened today. These are very bright red in color. After these have opened and are gone, there is another flower stalk on this plant with more red flowers to come! Click on the image to enlarge.

Early Spring?

Early SpringMost of January until this week has seen fairly cool days and several overnight temperatures below freezing. This afternoon and yesterday saw temperatures above 70° and the forecast on National Weather Service says the warm trend will continue into the weekend, but falling again early next week with some chance for showers.

We covered most of the frost sensitive trees, shrubs and cacti before the freeze, and most of them survived. We also winterized the spa and drained the water out of the travel trailer. We’re hoping that the cooler period for next week is brief so we can get back to spring-like weather.

What’s For Dinner?

Broccoli Beef

I cut the London broil beef into a julienne yesterday; Verna mixed the meat into a marinade that soaked overnight in the ‘frig. Today, she stir fried the beef into carrots, broccoli and savory veggies. Served over white rice, this was a good, tasty and healthy meal. Leftovers are scheduled for lunch tomorrow.
