The Red Bird of Paradise (a.k.a. Pride of Barbados) have been blooming all over town for over a month now. My red birds are less mature and seem to take a little longer to develop these beautiful flowers. But, they are starting to open and should be producing flowers well into second spring. Courtyard Cacti
My prickly pear clippings that we brought from California last February have really taken off. This year, there does not seem to be as much damage from rabbits and squirrels as happened last year to the old clipping I brought.
This guy, who resembles Mickey Mouse waving to someone, is just about ready to go into the cactus garden across the little wash. I hope that this and some lawyers-tongue cacti will give us a nice border between our lot and the neighbors to the west. Click on the image to enlarge.
Umbrella for the Grill
When the mercury hits to 110° and above, it is nigh unto foolish to stand in the sun while grilling our special summer meals. Pursuant to that notion, we acquired a new patio umbrella to block out the sun’s midsummer desert heat rays. It worked great as we enjoyed cooking and then eating today’s tenderloin steaks and the accompanying side dishes.
Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe No. 761 Locomotive
Every time we pass through the old historic district of our scenic little touristy town, we’re reminded of what a great little town this is. We were out and about with the food donations yesterday, when I took this photo of our historic AT&SF Locomotive on old Railroad St. Click on the image to enlarge.
Helping the Yarnell Fire Victims
Verna and I took some canned goods, some packaged food, a few blankets and bottled water to the Wickenburg Community Center today. The center is being used to stockpile and distribute food and supplies to the victims of the Yarnell fire disaster. We were glad that we had a stock of items on hand to be able to take them there today. Click on the image to enlarge.
Of course, there were plenty of other community members who brought a lot of items. Click here to see more.
A Desert Spa in 3D
A few days ago, Verna went to the Spa at Los Caballeros here in town. They gave her a pedicure, a manicure and a facial. She liked it. We plan to make a visit to the spa a regular thing.
While we were there, I took a pair of images of the spa and later combined them into this anaglyph view. Click on the image to enlarge.
Of course, you will need your free pair of 3D glasses to view the anaglyph image. If you don’t have your 3D glasses you can view the 2D image here.
