California Brown Pelican

Bob thinks this is one of the the best photos I’ve ever taken of the California Brown Pelican. I snapped this last January 23 on a clear, nice day at Point Vicente.

These beautiful birds were on the endangered species list, but their numbers are now plentiful along the coastline ranging from Cabo San Lucas to Eureka and beyond. This handsome specimen flew so low and close to my camera last January that you could practically see the whites of its eyes. Click on the image below to see the glorious extra-large close-up.

Santa Hat

The Mama put this Santa hat on me today. We’re going to have a family Christmas picture and she wanted me to look festive. The Daddy took our picture. Click to make us big.

Morning Sun

The Daddy was fixing breakfast in the kitchen, so Cabela and I laid down in a little patch of sunlight in the dining room while we waited to see if we would get something to eat. We kept each other warm and we were very cozy.

After a while, the Daddy took us upstairs to get the Mama so she could have the breakfast that the Daddy made. When they were done, Cabela and I got our breakfasts too. It was good.

Gambel’s Quail

Yesterday, I bought some wild animal food at the local variety store. We went to the new house and distributed it in the little wash area next to the house where we previously saw some quail.

Today, we went back to take some electrical fixtures to the house and there were a dozen or more of these little guys in the wash having a good old quail party! Click on the image to enlarge.

From Wikipedia:

The Gambel’s Quail, ‘Callipepla gambelii’, is a small ground-dwelling bird in the New World quail family. It inhabits the desert regions of Arizona, California, Colorado, New Mexico, Nevada, Utah, Texas, and Sonora; also New Mexico-border Chihuahua and the Colorado River region of Baja California. The Gambel’s quail is named in honor of William Gambel, a 19th century naturalist and explorer of the Southwestern United States.

Cabela at Rest

I don’t often get her to sit still enough to pose for a picture, but this afternoon, she laid on the floor after taking a walk with us. I snapped this one when she wasn’t quite the blur she normally is . . .

Nap Time

This is me in my new bed. I curl up in it once in a while to take a nap. Most of the time, though, I am playing with my chew toys and squeakey toys and running around the house. Click on my picture to make me big.
