Plumeria

According to WikiPedia:

Plumeria flowers are most fragrant at night in order to lure sphinx moths to pollinate them. The flowers have no nectar, and simply dupe their pollinators. The moths inadvertently pollinate them by transferring pollen from flower to flower in their fruitless search for nectar.

This is one of many brilliant flowers currently showing on the patio and duping helpless sphinx moths. Of course, they delight us no end, regardless.

I Beg Your Pardon

I never promised you a rose garden – but here it is in panoramic wide screen. Click the image for the full-sized view of the Rose Garden in the South Coast Botanic Gardens.

Havasu Sunset

All I had to do to get this beautiful sunset photo is step out into the 104° heat at Lake Havasu and point the camera west. You can get a closer look at the picture and especially the contrail in the upper left by clicking on the image.

Riverside at London Bridge

Well, not actually riverside – it’s a section of a canal that McCulloch and company dug through a peninsula on Lake Havasu. The bridge spans the canal at Queen’s Village and is the only thoroughfare from the ‘mainland’ to the ‘island’ peninsula. It was 113 degrees when I strolled down to the water to take this panoramic view. Click on the image below for the full-sized panorama.

Fire Dahlia

I could post pictures of dahlias for the next month and never be tired of it. However, I’m pretty sure there will be something else to comment about and more pictures to post. For today, though, just feast your eyes on this wonderful fiery dahlia. Click for full size.

Dahlia Month

We went to the Botanic Garden today to specifically see and take pictures of the Dahlias, which are in abundance during August. This wonderful example is only one of many flowers and varieties currently showing. Click for the 1024×768 view.
