Cooper’s Hawk
We went out to the memorial park today to put out some Fathers Day decorations for Verna’s Dad. On our way into the place, we spotted a Cooper’s Hawk swooping low over the ground. Verna took this photo of it during a low pass. It appeared to have some prey on the ground somewhere although we couldn’t see anything there. Cooper’s Hawk sure is a handsome bird.
American and Wickenburg Flags
I’m a couple days late for Flag Day, but I’ll share this photo that Verna took in Wickenburg during our May visit to the Wickenburg, AZ, Chamber of Commerce. The “Out Wickenburg Way” motto seen on the town flag is also the name of a website about the town and what’s happening there. Click on the image to enlarge.
Muzzle Flash
We haven’t been to the target range in a while, what with the effort to build a home in Arizona and all. Today, I was rummaging through some old images from about a year ago. I found a video I made of Verna firing her S&W 686 357 magnum revolver. I was impressed by the muzzle flashes in the video, so I stopped it on one frame and made this image where the flash can be seen.
I wrote about muzzle blast in an article on our other (more political) weblog in February of 2008 that goes into a lot of detail about the auditory and non-auditory characteristics. Click on the image to enlarge.
Our New Desert Property
Today, we closed escrow on the Arizona lot where we’re going to start construction on our new desert home. Earlier in the month, I took a series of images which I stitched together to form a 360° panoramic image. Click on the thumbnail segment below to see the entire panorama in the image viewer.
