Rainy Day Comfort Food

pea-soup.jpg

On a cool, rainy day in the high desert, what better comfort food than piping hot split pea soup with andouille sausage bits, carrots, potatoes and onions? Verna fixed a very warm and comforting meal on a gloomy day. Click on the image to enlarge.

. . . and we can use it here in our little desert town. I took this photo today on our way to go shopping before it started raining. Click on the image to enlarge.

Arizona Christmas Tree

Arizona Christmas Tree

Just because we don’t have a big Christmas tree inside the house, Verna decorates the palo verde next to the road. I trimmed (removed some branches) the tree over the weekend and Verna trimmed (added Christmas baubles) to it today. Click on the image to enlarge.

Mini Christmas Tree Ornaments

Mini Christmas Tree Ornaments

Our Arizona house is nice and cozy and we don’t have enough room for a full-sized Christmas tree. So, we buy a little topiary tree and decorate it with miniature ornaments. This cardinal and Santa are only about an inch long/high. Cute, though. Click on the image to enlarge.

Wash Day

Wash Day

I do the laundry on Mondays. Beethoven likes to help me by absorbing the warmth from the bedclothes when I take them out of the dryer. Click on the image to enlarge.

Harris’ Hawk

Harris’ Hawk

I walked outside this morning to be greeted by this guy perched on a branch near the bird feeders. It is a Harris’s hawk. There were two of them, mates, I assume, browsing the area for prey. Click on the image to enlarge.
