Cactus Spirals

Verna recently bought this interesting cactus at Lowe’s garden shop. She took this picture of it shortly after we got it home. When I looked at it just a few minutes ago, I noticed that you can clearly see the Fibonacci spirals in the pattern the spiny nodes make.

The Cosmos Are Back

center of the cosmosYesterday, you saw a preview of the return of the cosmos flowers to the patio flowerpots when I posted the lady bug close-up. Today, I took a lot of pictures of flowers. It was hard to pick one, but this tight shot of a pink cosmos shows the beautiful structure of these colorful flowers.

Lady Bug

A little more than a week ago, I bought a couple of Cosmos flower plants at our local garden emporium. I was taking some photos of the nice flowers when I saw this little ‘lady bug’ beetle land on one of the white flowers.

I’ll have more about the flowers soon.

Red, White and Blue

We went to the indoor shooting range today and did some target practice. Afterwards, I cleaned the revolver up and took a picture of the nice, clean cylinder. The reflections are from a fold-up canvas chair with a pattern made to look like a U.S. Flag.

Falcon

This handsome hunter occasionally swoops through our yard in quest of small game. Today, we saw the bird land on the TV antenna briefly, only to swoop on to another yard. I managed to get this shot as it flew within a mere ten feet or so.

Dilbert - the Website

Being the nerd that I am, I try and visit Scott Adams’ Dilbert cartoon daily on the web. Today, I was surprised by the new website format featuring a color comic strip and other interactive features. Formerly, they only published a color strip on Sunday.

This is today’s screenshot from www.dilbert.com:

Riding the Alaskan Railroad

It’s been almost three years since we took a ride on the Alaskan Railway to Denali and then to Fairbanks. All along the way there are scenes like this one of the Talkeetna River as the dome car in which we rode passed northbound from Anchorage.
