It’s time to trade out the old dead stuff in the front porch planters with some new colors for the late winter to spring season. We went to the garden shop yesterday and got a pair of ranunculus and an Icelandic poppy for the porch. I took this picture of one of the ranunculus this morning. Click 4 big.

Yellow Mums
We ran a bunch of errands today. We took cans and bottles to the recycle center, went to get some new shoes and shotgun shells (at the same store – really) and to the garden center to get some winter annuals to spruce up the front porch planters. When I passed by these pretty yellow mums, they somehow jumped into the cart. Click 4 big.
BB
Just after she got her haircut, my sister, Brenda (a.k.a. “BB”), posed for this snapshot in front of Mom and Dad’s house. She was in Mom’s car, just arriving at the house.
3D Castle
When we went through Death Valley last month, we went to Scotty’s Castle, which is a must see attraction there. The castle is only a part of the greater ranch that ‘Scotty’ actually did not build.
Out on the west part of the ranch property, there is a clocktower just behind the castle, both done up in renaissance style architecture. I took a stereo pair of images to later combine into this 3D view of the castle and tower. Click on the 3D image to see a larger version.
As usual, if you do not have a pair of 3D glasses, you can see the 2D version here.
Watchtower – Summer Version
When we were in Grand canyon National Park last month, the roads were so bad with ice and snow that travel to the Desert View site was definitely not recommended. While we were disappointed, we were also wary since having been stuck in the snow the night before, so we didn’t risk it. I didn’t get the snow shot of the Watchtower I wanted, so I’ll post this jumbo i took by combining two shots into one tall picture – wide too. Click on the image for big.
Inauguration Day
We watched the events unfolding in Washington DC today and they reminded us of the last time we were in DC together. It was 19 or 20 years ago – we visited most of the Smithsonian Museums and art galleries, Arlington National Cemetery and the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Union Station and the mall monuments. We stayed in Georgetown while we were there.
At one point, Verna paused near the White House to pose for this picture with then President George H. W. Bush. Click 4 bigger.
