Friday, when we passed the floral section at the supermarket, we saw these nice phalaenopsis orchids on display. So, as an early valentine, we decided to get one. It is sitting on the end of the kitchen island where it can be seen from the family and dining rooms. I took this photo of this beautiful flower this morning. Click for the full view.
California
First Daffodil
After the last cold spell, the bulbs around the garden started to wake up and sprout. This is the first yellow daffodil of the season.
Bright yellow daffodils are a powerful symbol of sunny spring days, and the most representative of all the daffodil flowers. You can buy bunches of these in the local supermarket, but I like growing them in our yard! They are big, bright and beautiful.
A Cardinal Red Tulip
This is a “Cardinal Red” tulip. I wanted to post this nice photo since there is a blue hyacinth in the picture to provide a contrasting blue color against the dominant red tulip. According to the tulip website flowering period is early in the season and the average plant height is about four inches. Landscape uses for the tulip is for flower beds, borders, rock gardens and for forcing in a bulb vase. We picked up both the hyacinth and the tulip when we visited the new Lowe’s store last week. Stargazers
As promised, in my article about the nice rose, I took some pictures of the stargazer lilies we got last weekend.
The Stargazer Asian lily has always been my favorite flower, and I’m happy to say that these are some of the best ‘gazers we have come across recently.
This is a photo of two of the larger flowers now blooming with several more to come. Click the image for a close-up.
Marigolds
This picture just makes me want to smile. These were at the new Lowe’s store by the Torrance Airport. We stopped in to see what the new store is like, although the store at 223rd and Western is much closer for us. The new store was nice, but we probably won’t frequent it unless we’re down that way doing other shopping (Big 5 and Smart & Final on PCH are regular stops for us). Marina Ripple
Today we took the day off – Bob went to the dentist -ouch! – but other than that, we had a pretty good day. We took a leisurely drive back from the dentist (who practices in the people’s republic of Santa Monica) along the California coastline through the beach communities back home. One stop was at Marina Del Rey where I snapped this nice picture of the morning sun rippling across the channel on a beautiful California morning. As usual, click the image to see it full-sized.
