Retirement Throwback

This coming Saturday, 10/01/2022, will be the thirteenth anniversary of my retirement from full-time employment. In the days following that event, Verna and I took some weekday trips to some of our local attractions. Verna took this photo of a Seagull in the Harbor of Los Angeles (San Pedro).

We visited the garden department of a Lowe’s and saw this hummingbird browsing the flowers on display there.

Finally, we visited the South Coast Botanic Garden on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. This is us relaxing on a park bench for a few minutes after walking through the acres and acres of garden displays.

All the above activity took place the first week of October, 2009. It was such a pleasure to visit these places on weekdays when they were less crowded than on the weekends. Click on any image to enlarge.

Remembering Kate on Her Birthday

Morro Rock

We remember our Mom, Kate, on more occasions than just her birthday, but today she would have turned 101. She passed from us in September of 2013 and we still miss her.

The image above is of Morro Rock in the California town of Morro Bay. It’s a charming place to visit and the rock is where Kate wanted her cremains to be distributed. We can’t see the rock without thinking about Kate. She always told us how much she loved that place on the Pacific Coast west of San Luis Obispo, CA.

Crepe Myrtle Flowers

Crepe Myrtle Flowers

We don’t see many Crepe Myrtle flowers in Arizona, but there are plenty of them blooming on their trees in California this summer. I snapped this photo of a cluster of the flowers yesterday. Click on the image to enlarge.

We’re Baaaack!

State Line

We’re back in California this evening. We have some important family business to attend to, and have to visit the old domicile to collect some information and a couple of things. We will be heading home on Wednesday. Click on the image to enlarge.

Two Tall Palm Trees

Two Tall Palm Trees

Our California second home is currently undergoing some remodeling, so we had to stay in a hotel this time out to visit family and friends. The place we stayed in Torrance, CA, had some really tall palm trees in their landscape scheme. I took two images of the two palms next to our room and combined them into this vertical panoramic image. Click on the image to see in the image viewer.

M47 Patton Tank in 3D

M47 Patton TankWe stopped briefly at the Patton Museum at Chiriaco Summit on Interstate 10 today on our way back from a quick visit to the California House. While we were there, I snapped an image pair of a Korean War vintage M47 Patton Tank and merged them this evening into this 3D anaglyph. I did a post on this same tank in October of 2009, but this one is from a different angle taken through a chain link fence. Click to enlarge.

Of course, you will need your free pair of 3D glasses to view the anaglyph image. If you don’t have your 3D glasses you can view the 2D image here.
