Wayfarer’s Chapel

chapel.jpgThis is taken from our other website, where we don’t always post something political. Verna took this picture in January on a clear and beautiful day. Click for bigger.

Wayfarers Chapel

With its breathtaking Pacific Ocean view and original Lloyd Wright architecture, the Wayfarers Chapel was conceived as a respite for all wayfarers on the journey of life. Here all people may sit and be nurtured by the beauty of nature and enjoy peaceful meditation. No one realized that this simple idea would produce a world-renowned sacred site. The power of Wayfarers Chapel is a blend of the sacred purpose and beauty that people experience. This quiet beauty is emphasized by the openness and echoing of nature in the elegant glass structure.

Ink Monkey

Yesterday, I had a dental appointment (two actually – cleaning and some restoration work) in the People’s Republic of Santa Monica. Since I got in the area early, I had some time on my hands so I took a little tour around the downtown area. I ran across this interesting store front. Now I know where the guy with this Satanic paint job gets his tattoos.

Mother’s Day 2007

mothers-day.jpgHow can you make Mom happy on Mother’s Day? If it’s Verna, you go to the shooting range with her. JJ did just that. He came over and went to the range with us and we shot a bunch of .38 special, 9MM and both 12 and 20 gauge shotguns. It was a good outing and we all had fun. Click the photo for full-sized version.

USPS Jedi Master Mailbox

r2d2-post.jpgWhile taking my after-lunch walk today, I saw this mailbox painted up to resemble R2D2. Apparently, there is a contest underway to select which Star Wars character gets depicted on a stamp. Yoda is ahead. Click the image for a full-sized view.

From the Washington Post:

Under cover of night, officials at the USPS stealthily deposited 400 of the costumed letterboxes on high-traffic street corners nationwide — about a dozen in the Washington area — to promote a new line of postage stamps. They unbolted mailboxes from sidewalks and replaced them with ones decked in decorative adhesive panels.

The switcheroo, carried out March 16, was intended as a teaser until the new postage design was announced.

The 41-cent stamps — the rate is going up May 14 — were unveiled Wednesday in Hollywood to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Star Wars phenomenon. You know the one. And if you don’t, well, that sort of admission will find you subject to all sorts of derision.

A Fallen Angel

Verna and I are deeply saddened by the death of LCDR Kevin Davis in the crash of Blue Angels F/A-18 Aircraft Six. We extend our thoughts and prayers for this amazing pilot and to his family and friends. We also stand with the Blue Angels Squadron in solidarity for the healing to come. Verna captured this photo of Angel Number Six at the 2006 MCAS Miramar Air Show.

Morse Code vs. Text Messaging

Retired Geezer, a blogger at Blog Idaho, posted this video from the Leno Show. I wanted to post it here as well. Being in a position to have used both Morse Code and text messaging, I already knew the outcome but still found it to be funny.
