I brought this cactus from California just after we moved here over three years ago. I don’t know the name of this variety of cactus, but it has long arms that hang over the side of the pot. This is the first and only flower that opened up on this unusual cactus since it’s been here in Arizona. Click on the image to enlarge.
The stargazer lilies we got at the store this week are opening up and they are bright red in color. The fragrance is very nice as well. Click on the image to enlarge.
I saw a splash of color up in the wash behind our house yesterday, so I grabbed my Canon SX40 camera and hiked up there. When I got to the beavertail cactus, there was a large pink flower open. I hiked up a little higher to the prickly pear cactus and found several yellow flowers open there. I posted photos of the pink and yellow flowers above, but I also took another of a pair of prickly pear yellow flowers and uploaded it here. Click on either flower above to view full size.
We were at the pharmacy this morning to pick up some meds when I saw the old saguaro cactus in the parking lot had sprouted some flowers. We went over and took a few pictures of the new flowers and all the flower pods of flowers to come.These are the first saguaro flowers we have seen this spring. The saguaro flower is the state flower of Arizona. Click on the image to enlarge.

What may be the last of the hedgehog flowers for this year opened today. There were several pods open and I did not see any more getting ready to open. This was the prettiest one on the cactus today. We will miss them until next year. Click on the image to enlarge.
