After the debacle of having our first giant saguaro cactus fall over, we are happy that the replacement cactus is doing very well. In a couple of months, we’re hoping to see flower buds appear on the tips of the arms. Click on the image to enlarge.

Gambel’s Quail
When I replace the seed bell and block in the feeders on the hill behind our house, a few loose seeds spill down the slope. They aren’t wasted, however, since the quail find them and help themselves. This is a male Gambel’s Quail browsing the slope for seeds. Click on the image to enlarge.
New Family Portrait
We were just getting ready to go to the supermarket today, when I grabbed my little Canon A710-IS camera, set it on the courtyard wall and got this picture of us and the two min pins. The camera has an ingenious option to set the automatic delay timer countdown audio to sound like a puppy whining. Notice the dogs both alerted on it and faced the camera as the shutter snapped. Arizona Christmas Tree
Just because we don’t have a big Christmas tree inside the house, Verna decorates the palo verde next to the road. I trimmed (removed some branches) the tree over the weekend and Verna trimmed (added Christmas baubles) to it today. Click on the image to enlarge.

The Birdman of Wickenburg
One of our most enjoyable toils in retirement is to keep the bird feeders full to attract the little critters. Verna gets some pretty good images of the little feathered visitors to the feeders. Verna took this photo of me filling the feeders today. The red bottle to my left contains anti-squirrel spray to ensure that the furry little thieves keep away from the treats for the birds.
